17 killed in Yei gunfight

Seventeen people were killed in a fighting that broke out over the weekend in Yei River State, the UN says.

The UN Mission in the country tweeted the information on its handle this morning but there were no further details.

The tweet says the incident took place in a remote village in Yei County.

For its part, the SPLA says it is not aware of the fighting.

The SPLA Spokesperson, Brigadier Lul Ruai Koang, says he is yet to get in touch with the field commander in Yei to get more information on the incident.
